Wings of Peshawar – Nature Conservation Activity by Youth & Volunteer Department

Youth & Volunteers Department, PRCS KP, with the support of IFRC and Italian Red Cross, conducted a nature conservation activity under the theme “Wings of Peshawar” at Wazir Bagh, Peshawar.

Research shows that Peshawar has witnessed a 60% decline in House Sparrow populations due to habitat loss caused by rapid urbanization over the last 30 years. To address this, volunteers installed bird nest houses, water pots, and food feeders, providing shelter and resources for small birds. 🌱💧🌾

This initiative aims to restore sparrow populations and promote harmony between people and nature in our urban spaces.

PAKISTAN RED CRESCENT SOCIETY RESPONDING TO THE 2025 MONSOON FLOODS IN KHYBER PAKHTUNKHWA: A COLLECTIVE HUMANITARIAN EFFORT 18th – 31st AUGUST

The 2025 monsoon floods hit Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with devastating force, disrupting lives across multiple districts. Torrential rains triggered flash floods and river overflows, washing away homes, damaging roads, and cutting off access to essential services. Vulnerable families in Buner, Swat, Dir Lower, Shangla, Mansehra, and Swabi bore the brunt of the disaster. Thousands were displaced overnight, left without shelter, clean water, or food security. The sudden collapse of infrastructure and services also raised the risk of disease outbreaks, particularly in areas where health facilities were already overstretched.

The humanitarian toll was immense—entire communities were stranded in unsafe conditions, while schools and health centers were converted into makeshift shelters. Women, children, and the elderly were among the most at risk, facing both physical danger and loss of dignity as they struggled to cope with the aftermath of the disaster.

PRCS Emergency Response

In the face of this crisis, the Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa branch, with support from its partners, swiftly mobilized relief operations to save lives and provide dignity to flood-affected families. Immediate priorities included food, healthcare, shelter, and access to safe water.

  • Food Security: Over 17,600 cooked food parcels and 200 dry food ration packages were distributed to ensure that displaced families had access to daily meals.
  • Health Services: 18 Mobile Health Units (MHUs) and free medical camps provided care to more than 2,700 patients, addressing both flood-related injuries and common illnesses such as respiratory infections and skin diseases.
  • Water and Sanitation: More than 49,500 liters of safe drinking water were delivered to reduce the spread of waterborne diseases. Hygiene education sessions were also conducted to empower communities with preventive practices.
  • Shelter Support: Families who lost their homes were supported with 45 tents and 500 shelter toolkits, while 285 packages of non-food items (NFIs), 200 jerry cans, and 416 pairs of clothes helped restore basic dignity.

Altogether, PRCS and its partners reached more than 79,500 beneficiaries during the emergency phase, with an operational value of PKR 40.74 million (USD 141,458).

District-Wise Relief Efforts

The emergency response phase targeted six severely affected districts—Buner, Swat, Dir Lower, Shangla, Mansehra, and Swabi. A multi-sectoral approach ensured families had access to food, health services, shelter, and clean drinking water.

  • Cooked Food Distribution: Over 17,600 food parcels were delivered, ensuring immediate nourishment for displaced families.
  • Dry Food Rations: Essential food packages reached 200 families, providing a safety net for the most vulnerable households.
  • Mobile Health Services: 18 free medical camps were organized through Mobile Health Units (MHUs), delivering primary healthcare to 2,700 patients and bridging critical service gaps.
  • Clean Drinking Water: More than 49,500 liters of safe water were distributed, reducing risks of waterborne diseases.
  • Shelter Support: 45 family tents and 500 shelter toolkits were distributed to restore temporary living conditions.
  • Non-Food Items (NFIs): 285 packages of essential household items and 200 jerry cans helped affected families maintain dignity and hygiene.
  • Clothing & Hygiene: 416 pairs of clothes and 15 family hygiene kits were handed out, while 16 hygiene education sessions empowered communities with preventive health knowledge.

In total, these efforts supported 79,501 beneficiaries, with an estimated financial impact of PKR 40.74 million (USD 141,458).

Partner & Donor Contributions

Humanitarian action during disasters thrives on solidarity. The 2025 floods response was made possible through the coordinated contributions of PRCS National Headquarters (NHQ), IFRC, ICRC, German Red Cross (GRC), Norwegian Red Cross (NRC), and PRCS Punjab branch.

Through this collective effort, partners helped 79,501 people, reaffirming the power of humanitarian collaboration. The combined contributions amounted to PKR 40.74 million, strengthening PRCS’s ability to respond swiftly and effectively.

Looking Ahead: Building Resilience

While the emergency phase focused on immediate needs, the 2025 monsoon floods are a stark reminder of the urgent need for long-term disaster preparedness. The Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa continues to expand its Monsoon Floods 2025 relief operations, reaching thousands of vulnerable families across the province with life-saving support.

Consolidated Relief Achievements (as of 23 August 2025)

PRCS KP has reached more than 23,300 beneficiaries across flood-affected districts including Buner, Swat, Dir Lower, Shangla, Mansehra, and Swabi, with total relief assistance valued at PKR 16.41 million (USD 56,978).

Key highlights of the relief operations include:

PRCS Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chairman Visits Flood-Affected Communities in District Buner

Buner, Sunday — Mr. Habib Malik Orakzai, Chairman of the Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Branch, visited the flood-affected villages of District Buner to review ongoing relief and response operations.

During his visit, Mr. Orakzai inspected two Mobile Health Units established by PRCS to provide free medical consultations, essential medicines, and health awareness sessions to the affected population. He also visited the Water Treatment Plant installed in Bishonri village, one of the worst-hit areas, to ensure access to safe and clean drinking water for flood-affected families.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Orakzai reaffirmed PRCS’s commitment to stand with the people of Buner in their time of need. He highlighted that timely medical support, safe water, and essential relief items remain critical for preventing disease outbreaks and reducing further suffering in disaster-stricken communities.

Mr. Orakzai expressed his deep gratitude to the Honorable Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, PRCS National Headquarters, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), the Norwegian Red Cross (NorCross), the German Red Cross (GRC), as well as the Governments of Sindh and Balochistan, for their generous support and solidarity with the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during this humanitarian emergency. He stressed that this collective support has enabled PRCS to reach thousands of vulnerable families with life-saving assistance.

The PRCS teams, with support from volunteers and community members, have been actively engaged in emergency health services, safe water supply, food distribution, and hygiene promotion across the affected areas. Thousands of people have already benefitted from these interventions.

PRCS KP Conducts Relief Distribution in Swabi with Support of Alkhair Welfare Organization

On 22 August 2025, the Pakistan Red Crescent Society Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (PRCS KP) organized a major relief distribution in Darori Bala, Union Council Gadoon, Tehsil Topi, District Swabi, to support families affected by the recent floods.

The distribution was overseen by PRCS KP Swabi Coordinator, Mr. Sher Afsar, in collaboration with Alkhair Welfare Organization, Swabi, ensuring timely assistance to the most vulnerable households.

A total of 100 families benefited from the relief operation.

Each family received a comprehensive package of essential relief goods, including:

PRCS KP with Support from PRCS Punjab, Launches Mobile Health Team Camp in Buner

The Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with vital support from the PRCS Punjab Branch, organized a Mobile Health Team (MHT) medical camp to provide free healthcare services to flood-affected communities in Village Nar Batawal, UC Malapur, District Buner. The medical team was dispatched all the way from Lahore by PRCS Punjab to strengthen relief efforts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

During the camp, a total of 130 patients were registered and treated, including 81 men, 34 women, and 17 children (paediatric cases). The team provided free consultations and essential medicines, addressing both general and flood-related health concerns.

Medicines dispensed at the camp included Azithromycin, Metronidazole, Metformin, ORS, Paracetamol, Dicloran, Omeprazole, Ciprofloxacin, Tranexamic Acid, cough syrups, Neilstat oral drops, Permethrin, Calcium, B-Complex, anti-allergics, and Polyfex eye ointment.

This initiative marks the continuation of PRCS KP’s mobile healthcare response in Buner, made possible through inter-provincial solidarity and support from PRCS Punjab. By joining hands across provinces, PRCS ensures that flood-affected families in Buner receive timely medical services, treatment, and life-saving medicines close to their communities.

Saudi Arabia Extends Support to Flood-Affected Families in Buner, Pakistan

In a strong gesture of solidarity, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has extended humanitarian assistance to Pakistan for families affected by the recent floods. A formal handover ceremony was held where Saudi diplomats in Pakistan presented relief consignments to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).

The ceremony was graced by Federal Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah as the chief guest. Representing the Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS), Mr. Farzand Ali Wazir, Vice Chairman of PRCS Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, also participated in the event.

This support underscores the enduring friendship between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia and highlights the importance of international cooperation in responding to humanitarian crises. PRCS, in collaboration with NDMA and partner organizations, remains committed to ensuring that relief reaches those most in need across the flood-affected regions.

PRCS Punjab Deploys Mobile Health Team to Support Flood-Affected Communities in Buner

In line with the directives of the Chairman, PRCS Punjab, a Mobile Health Team has been dispatched from Lahore to extend urgent medical support to flood-affected communities in District Buner, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The team comprises two Medical Officers, one male Nurse, one Hygiene Promoter, and is equipped with an ambulance and essential medicines to ensure effective service delivery.

Upon arrival in Buner, the team has begun preparations to establish mobile medical camps on a rotational basis across all flood-affected Union Councils of the district. These camps will provide much-needed healthcare services, first aid, and hygiene awareness to families struggling with the aftermath of the disaster.

This joint effort by PRCS Punjab and PRCS Khyber Pakhtunkhwa reflects the strong spirit of unity within the Red Crescent Movement, ensuring that vulnerable communities receive timely medical relief and support during emergencies.
